mAgha Snana @ Kaveri River

Thithi: mAgha-Shukla-Trayodashi

Where: Gosai Ghat, Sri Ranga Patna
When: 0330 - 0930

with the prEraNe of Sri Hari Vayu GurugaLu, some of the MYP members along with two of our esteemed Achars - Sri Vadirajachar Karnam and Sri Venkateshachar had been to the auspicious mAgha snAna at Kaveri River in Sri Ranga Patna.

We left very early in the morning at 3.30 to reach the Ghat by 4.30, and needless to sat we were the first set of people at the Ghat. After getting acclaimatised, we did our rituals of sankalpa under the guidance of Sri Karnam Achar and by the time we finished our Devara Pooja and other rituals, it was almost 7am.

We were also blessed by the Dandha Theertha from Sri Abbur Mutt SrigaLu and his ashirvAda.
Since the Sri Ranganatha temple was still unopened, we did a sAshtAnga namaskAra from the main door and returned back.

On the way back, we had the devine blessings of listening to a short pravachana by Sri Karnam Achar about the moola roopa of Sri mukhya prANa as depicted in Sri BaLitthA sooktha. Per this we need to have the awareness of both "bala" and "jnAna" roopa of vAyu dEvaru. The delivery was so absorbing that, none of us realised we had reached the bustling Bangalore and were already into the morning office traffic by around 9am. We thank both the Achars for their guidance, devine company and their blessings.

Sri Madhwa Navami Celebrations from MYP - 16th FEB @ Brahmanyapura

Hari Sarvotthama Vayu Jeevotthama

namaskAra to all our Madhwa BandhugaLu,

Madhwa Navami celebrations at Brahmanyapura organised by Madhwa Yuva Parishat which was a great success and with the grace of Sri Hari Vayu GurugaLu the event went on so well that it made our conviction towards our seva, sadhana and satsangha stronger than ever before.

At the end of the day long event, which started as early as 3am for few and ended as late as 10 pm, all that we were left with was one single request to Sri Mukhya prAna Devaru to bless us with more opportunities to seek, serve and savour Sri Hari through him.

As decided earlier, we started from the premises of Poorna Prajna Vidya Peeta with the blessings of Sri Krishna at 7am, with a total count of 55. Our vehicle was a Pushpak Bus from BMTC with its most convenient seats, followed by 'shiMshumAra', picking up few people who could not reach the venue on time and few last minute items necessary for our event.
We reached together at Brahmanyapura at 8.15am.

We had few surprises on our arrival with a bad lake and lack of water, which was offset by the most generous villagers and the Archak family who accomodated us at their home for our basic needs. We also had a bore well with a non working hand pump.
We had the Archakaru ready with his samagri and so were the cooks, lead by Sri Jayanna
who came specifically on our request for this event. But all of us had one need, WATER !!!!!

We did not worry too much about it as we were sure Srimad Ananda Theertharu will take care of his own program, run by his own desciples. We started off with Vayusthuthi Purascharne with the leadership of Sri Venkateshachar. Also accompanying were -
Sri Gururajachar Kamlapur
Sri Badarayanachar
Sri Gururajachar Mathad &
Sri Itagi Vedavyasachar
all learned Sudha Pandits, who had gracefully accepted our humble invitation to bless us with their esteemed company and guidance.

By the time we completed the Purascharane, we were blessed with the running water and the electricity. Tasks of mukhya prAna abhisheka and Cooking got off to a good start.

Sri Venkateshachar started his pravachana on the first four sargas of Sri Sumadhwa Vijaya,
and at the same time, there were 4-5 villagers who came forward to repair the bore well, which was dead, for past few months. By the time the first part of pravachana was done,
we also got the water pouring from the bore well, which quickened the whole process.

Next to go was Sri Badarayanachar, who took us through the sargas 5 to 8. By the time he finished, we were called for witnessing the Panchamrutha Abhisheka of Avatara Thraya Sri Mukhya prANa, which is installed by yathi thrayaru - Sri Brahmanya Theertharu, Sri Sripadarajaru and Sri Vyasarajaru. As Sri Badarayanachar rightly said, its a triveni sangama, created by triveni sangama. We felicitated him as he had to leave right after the lunch.

The abhisheka was accompanied by recitation of suswara sookthas by all the Achars/Pandits and by gathered members of MYP. While the alankAra was in progress, we were glad to get the company of few bhagavadbhkatharu, lead by Smt Jayalakshamamma, who happens to be the Director of the SRS Mutt and also the President of the Bhajana Mandali at Channa Patna.
They also got us a decorated Pallakki with a PrabhavaLi for our utsava (Thanks to Smt Padmaja & Smt Kumuda). The pallakki was duly decorated, on which were placed the Sarva Moola Granthas, with a back ground of beautiful black & white picture of Sri Acharya Madhwa and a cute vigraha of Srimad Ananda Theertharu with all his described lakshaNas, a prized pocession of Sri KM Sheshagiri.

After three rounds of pallakki seva, accompanied by keerthanes of Sri Hari Vayu GurugaLu sung by the Bhajana Mandali and the families of Sri Naik, Sri Chincholi & Sri Kuklarni. We finished one important stage of our event and were getting ready to have our naivedya done and parallely making place for the Theertha Prasada.

Inspite of a delayed start, where the first sparks of cooking fire were lit as late as 10am, we had the steaming food ready by 2pm. After we had the Achars start off, rest of the devotees enjoyed the liberal servings by Sri Jayanna, Sri Navaratna, Sri Venu who made sure all the 70 people were left gasping for some air who had eaten up till their neck.

The food included Badusha, Hayagreeva, Mirchi bajji, Payasa and the regular assortment, with the most liberal servings of ghee by Sri Narasimha Achar, who oversaw the needs and comfort of all the devotees while they ate food. The whole process of Bhojana would not have been so satisfying & fulfilling if not for the melodious recital of keerthanes by Sri Kulkarni's & Sri Chincholi's family, and ofcourse the Bhajana Mandali. We got to hear some rarest of the keerthanes of Sri Hari and avatara thraya mukhya prANa. The most enlightening thing was a quick one the fly Pravachana by Sri Sameerana Chincholi on the importance of Srimad Bhagavatha, which was appreciated by all the Achars and gathered people.

After our heavy food, we just took a break of few minutes and resumed our next part of pravachana rendered by Sri Itagi Vedavyasachara who explained to us about sargas 9 & 10.
His technicalities, examples and grasp over the subject reached people's heart and mind with a long lasting impact.

Next to go was Sri Gururajachar Mathad with the sargas 11, 12 & 13, with so much of sharpness in his delivery that it made all of us to feel proud we are desciples of such a siddhantha, initiated and promoted by such a ~jnAni, with a great contextual examples
We felicitated all the Achars, thanked them for the pravachana and their company with us.

We had a small Coffee break, and per our plan, proceeded to Abbur to the sannidhAna of
Sri Brahmanya Theertharu, where wanted to have the last part of Akhandha Sumadhwa Vijaya Pravachana and its MangaLa too.

We arrived at Abbur around 6.45 pm, after a brief break, Sri Gururajachar Kamlapur started off with Sargas 14 to 16 with his usual fire brand style. Inspite of a long and strainous day for all of us, starting at as early as 3am, it was nice to see, people enjoying the last part of the pravachana afte almost 16th hour. Sri Kamlapur Achar filled us all with such a pride and conviction of being a Madhwa while taking us through the last three sargas, we never knew when he recited the last few shlokas and made us all recite the same.....

Sri Venkateshachar did the final wrap up and Sri Gururaj Upendra presented the vote of thanks, which included some of the MYP members and sponsors who could not make it to the event. We thank all those sadbhaktaru who helped this event both directly and indirectly,
and pray to sri mukhya prANa about them getting similar opportunities in the future.
The Abbur Mutt archakaru did the tottilu pooje and final mangaLarati and offered us the phala mantrAkshate.

Madhva Navaraathri Utsava, Akshara Nidhi, Dhanvathari Nidhi

Hare Srinivasa,
namaskAra

Tomorrow( Thursday, 7th Feb 08) is Aradhana of Shri Purandara Dasaru. All of you know very well about the great contribution of Shri Dasaru to humanity, especially to madhva community. Shri Dasaru opened the highway for the spiritual sadhana for the layman by composing thousands of Bhajans in Kannada, highlighting the inner principles of Tatvavaada. A new era called "Dasa Sahitya" is started in literature world and so also a new lineage known as "Haridasa parampara". Several compositions of Dasaru are universally true irrespective of time, place, age, caste and sex. The greatness of the compositions is more highlighted by titling them as "Purandaropanishat" - a upanishat for one and all, envisaged specially for the people who could hardly find any time for special efforts for "sadhana". Let us all try to follow one simple composition of Shri Dasaru "kereya niiranu kerege chelli"..Let us try to give back to the society whatever we have received and offer it as Seva to Lord Hari......

The auspicious "maagha" masa starts from Friday(8-Feb-08) and next nine days are celebrated as "Madhva navarathri" to culminate with "madhva Navami", the day Shri Acharya Madhva disappeared from the mortal world. It is very asupicious period for all of us and let us all try to put one little step forward in our physical, mental acts to become a "true madhva". You may try to adopt any one small new resolution to practice and make a part of your daily life to see that you are in the new road to get the best blessings of Shri HariVayugurugalu.

On this auspicious occasion, let us all try to support and encourage those students who are dedicating their life for the practice and propagation of 'Shri Acharya's teachings. We have two schemes " Akshara Nidhi" and "Dhanvanthari Nidhi" - one to support the madhva shastra education and other to support the healthcare service to these students. Most of these students, studying in various gurukulas and vidyapeetas are coming from not 'so well to do' family, but are dedicated for practice and propagation of Shri Acharya's teaching. They are sacrificing all the worldly pleasure and comforts for the sake of Dvaitha Siddantha and it is our duty to help and encourage them in whatever the little way we can. These students are the torch bearers of "madhva matha" for the next generation and thus everyone of us need to be grateful to them. Imagine how madhvas would be after 2-3 decades if no one gets enrolled to these vidyapeetas!!!!. There would be, no pandits, no pravachanakaras, no purohits, no archakas...... It would be total chaos!!!!!.

Let us put all efforts together so that our children and grandchildren don't land up in such situation. Let us all try to help and encourage these students in the Vidyapeetas by whatever little we can and as "each drop makes to ocean", a little help from all of you would really bring a miraculous change in madhva community!!!!!

Through Akshara Nidhi we would like to help the students of "Vijayadwaja vidyapeeta, Gangavathi" & " Poornabhodha Vidyapeeta, Hyderabad"

Through Dhanvanthari Nidhi, we would like to help Chi. Badarinath age 10, studying at Pralhad Pathashala Udupi.s/o Shri Thirumalesh achar Bellary working as accountant at Pune. The student has got his back burnt and need to undergo under go skin grafting.

As a part of your 'madhva navami celebration', please contribute, whatever little possible, for a strong and brighter madhva community tomorrow.
Please let me know through email once you transfer your contribution.

----------------------------------------------------
"Akshara Nidhi" is a quarterly project to support "madhva shastra Adhyayana" at Gurukulas. We are collecting contributions from the volunteers every quarter and trying to help the gurukulas at remote places. By Lord's grace, so far we could contribute to 6 Gurukulas and with the sustained support from all the members; we would like to continue supporting "madhva shastra Adhyayana". These students are the "Torch Bearers" of our culture for next generation. So let us all support them whole heartedly and encourage them. Kindly contribute generously for this noble cause and help us to protect
our culture and philosophy. We have contributed Rs 10,000/ for each of the following gurukulas in last three years.
1) Shri Vedesh Theertha Vidyapeeta, Mannur, Gulbarga District
2) Shri Sathyavijaya Patashala, Sathyavijaya Nagara, Arni, Chennai
3) Shri Panini Vidyapeeta, Athmakur, Kurnool District, A.P
4) Shri Jnanadhayini Patashala, Hanumasagara, Koppal District
5) Shri sathyasandha Gurukula, Mahishi, Thirthahalli Tq, Shimoga District,
6) Shri Anandatheertha Gurukula, Pajaka, Udupi Dist.

"Dhanvanthari Nidhi" is a scheme to help the Guru Kula students in case any major health issues to them or their parents. Through this nidhi we try to provide financial help to the students so that they can get better services and better health. So far we could help following people
1) Chi. Madhava Prasad, Chennai Rs 7,000/ for Eye operation
2) Shri Anandatheertha, Davanagere Rs 4251 for kidney operation.
3) Shri Balamurali, for cancer operation of his mother - Rs 65,751(total collection from all corners, including outside the group/personal contributions)

Sri Purandara Dasara Smarane - Part 1

Namaskara All,

As we all know, Sri Purandara Dasara Aradhane is fast approaching.
This is a humble effort to make known some of the portion of the life history of Great Dasaru.
I am trying to capture those aspects of Dasaru, which might not be a well known and famous episode of his life time. As usual, your comments & feedback are welcome.

Ankita Naama, thanking his wife & Life Style of a typical Dasaru

Once Srinivasa Nayaka (erstwhile Dasaru) realised the value of Materialitic assets compared to Sri Hari Dasya, he left everything, and travelled towards Hampi along with his wife (Saraswathi Bai) and son (Madhwapathi). At Hampi he met Sri Vyasarajaru, who was expecting him and welcomed him along with the family.

Sri Vyasarajaru did a Sudarshana homa next day and did a Chakrankana to the entire family. He gave Manthropadesha and made him to be Bhagavatha Dharma Deekshitha.

For any Hari Dasa, following are the 'assets'
Dandige betha, Gopala Butti, Tulasi Male, Taptha Mudrankana.

Above all these, Kavyankita is also a very important, which has to be given by Gurugalu after Ankitopadesha. Sri Dasaru got all these from Sri Vyasarajaru and has composed a keerthane on the same:

aNkithavillada deha niShidDha,
aNkithavillada kaaya sHoBhisadu,
aNkithavillade irbaaradendu enage
chakrankithavanu maadiyenage
pankajanabha Purandara viTalanna
aNkithavenegitha Vyasamuniraya

After the Hari Dasa Deekshe, Sri Dasaru thanks not just his wife for driving him to towards this noble destination, but the entire sthree kula with the following composition.

AdadellA oLithE Ayithu,
mAdhavananghriya sEvisuvudake (also sung as - namma sridharana sEvege)
sAdhana sampatthAyithu

dandige bettha hidiyuvudakke mande bAgi nAchuthalidde
hendathi saMthathi sAviravAgali, dandige bettha hidisidalayyA.....

This shows the respect for Ladies, especially those GruhiNis, who play a major role in the journey & destiny of the family as a whole.

Also on the features of a Hari Dasa, he has composed the following:
eLe tulasiya vanamale dharisikolabeku,
GhaLilanE Hariya poojisuthirabeku,
kaLakaLane ekamana karaguthirabeku
naLinanaabhana Naama pogaLuthirabeku
Haroyane anavaratha neneyuthirabeku
karagaLali hariyanu poojisuthirabeku
charaNangalali punya sthaLava mettalubeku,
Purandara viTalanna neneyuthirabeku.

He is the one who is known as "Thrikarana Poorvaka Hari Dasa".
Dasaru also has composed the below on those people who did Sampradaya Akshepane:
gaDda meese bolisikondu goddu Naamava theedikondu
aDda dhiddi mudregala badidhukondinnu
doDda doDda maathugaLaadi doDdavarembheLikoMba
baddidhagaDi makkaliginnu Vaishnava salluvude?

naave shreshtayendu heLikondu
thiruguvantHa googe neechariginnu Vaishnava salluvude?
